We are very happy to hear that you are pleased with the detergent’s performance and quality. We truly appreciate your honesty, as it allows us to explain our philosophy clearly and transparently.

We completely understand your concern and we would love to share a bit of context why we use sachets:

Less Plastic, Lower Footprint:
Our sachets are made with intention. Just 15 of our detergent sachets use around 30g of plastic, while a traditional detergent bottle of the same use volume can contain up to 168g of plastic. That is nearly 6 times more plastic, and that is before considering the energy and emissions needed to produce and transport larger bottles.

Less Water in Production:
Traditional liquid detergents are often made up of up to 80% water, which increases packaging size and weight. Our formula is highly concentrated, meaning we use far less water in production and shipping. This reduces both waste and emissions and helps conserve a precious resource.

Lighter to Transport = Fewer Emissions:
Smaller and lighter packaging means more efficient shipping. Less weight = fewer trucks on the road and less fuel burned. It is a small change with a big impact.

Smarter Dosing, Less Product Waste:
Each sachet is pre-measured, so you use exactly what you need, no more, no less. Overusing detergent (which is common with bottles even with a measuring cup) actually reduces cleaning performance, wastes product, and can leave residue on clothes.

Why Not Pods?
We have also made a conscious decision not to use pods, which are often wrapped in polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). While marketed as 'dissolvable,' research has shown that PVA doesn’t always fully break down, releasing microplastics into our waterways. Even New York City is considering a ban on pods and sheets containing PVA for this very reason.

Recyclable:
Our sachets are recyclable with any plastic-recycling service. And we are not stopping here, our R&D team is actively testing fully biodegradable options that can safely hold our concentrated formula and remain affordable for everyday use. As soon as we find the right solution, we will switch.
There are indeed biodegradable options available today, but most of them are very costly and not always reliable when it comes to safely holding our concentrated formula. Choosing these options at this stage would make the product 3–5 times more expensive, which goes against one of our main goals: keeping our products accessible for as many households as possible. Simply put detergent will be very expensive to buy for many households.

We are also exploring the idea of using thick glass or metal containers. At the moment, switching to non-plastic alternatives like glass or metal unfortunately is not feasible for us, mainly due to current operational and market limitations here in Egypt. Shipping services still don’t handle fragile items like glass (specially big volumes) with the needed care, even when labeled properly. As for metal containers, the ones that are safe for our formulas (like high grade stainless steel) can cost anywhere from 5 to 10 times more, depending on specifications, hence the product will be very expensive. Some metals (like raw aluminum or low-grade steel, more affordable options) can actually react with ingredients affecting product safety and stability, so they are not a viable option either.

At the same time, we are studying different possibilities such as a refill system, though this requires careful planning and logistics to ensure it works smoothly for our customers.

All of these explorations are part of our mission to balance sustainability with affordability, so that our products remain safe, effective, and within reach for as many people as possible.

We know some people, put packaging first, while for us the top priority at the moment has been creating safe, professional-grade formulas that are free from harsh chemicals, while at the same time minimizing plastic use as much as possible. That is why we have already reduced the amount of plastic in our detergent packaging as much as we can and keep looking for solutions to minimize it even more till we completely eliminate it.

We would like to clarify a few points that may help explain our approach at Komplete. We have never claimed that our products are fully organic or 100% natural. Our focus is on creating safe, effective cleaning solutions that are free from harsh chemicals commonly found in traditional detergents and cleaning products.

While not all of our ingredients are natural, many are of natural origin. What matters most to us is that every ingredient, whether natural or synthetic, is carefully selected based on safety, effectiveness, and gentleness on skin and fabrics. We work closely with trusted European suppliers who follow some of the strictest quality and safety standards.

It’s also important to mention that even natural ingredients are made up of chemical compounds, in fact, everything around us is. This is why we describe our products as “harsh chemicals free,” not “chemical-free.” When we say free from harsh chemicals, we mean that we intentionally avoid ingredients known to be aggressive or harmful, and replace them with gentler, safer alternatives.

Regarding fragrance specifically, when compared to traditional detergents, our scent is formulated to be noticeably milder and more balanced. It is added in carefully controlled amounts, in accordance with international safety standards and regulations, to ensure it is not overpowering while still providing a pleasant washing experience.

We would also love to understand your experience better. When you mention a “smells like chemicals,” could you please share a bit more detail?
Was the scent simply too strong for your preference? Or is there something about the scent that felt unusual to you?And after washing, did your clothes themselves smell chemical, or the scent was simply too strong? The more details you share, the better we will be able to support you and look into this further.

We completely understand that scent intensity can vary from person to person, and while we do our best to find the perfect balance, we know it’s not always possible to please everyone. Many customers tell us they love the current scent and feel it’s gentle and not overpowering, while others feel it’s too subtle for their liking and prefer a more noticeable fragrance. Both perspectives are completely valid.

Because our formula is free from harsh chemicals, there is no need to mask any strong or unpleasant odors. We do not use any petroleum-based ingredients in our scents as well.

A small tip: if you would like the scent to fade even more, try letting your clothes dry a bit longer in a shaded outdoor area. This helps the fragrance evaporate naturally, leaving your laundry smelling clean and fresh.

At the same time, we are currently developing a fragrance-free line for households that are especially sensitive to scents or simply prefer completely unscented products, and we also are working on additional scent options, to better suit different preferences.

Ultimately, what matters most to us is how ingredients are sourced, processed, and used in our formulations. Whether natural or synthetic, we only choose ingredients that meet our high standards for quality, safety, and performance.
